Day[0]

I'm in Metz, France now! After an 8 hour flight and 4 hour bus ride (supposed to be 2, but extended by two breakdowns), we have finally made it! The most exciting part of the way over was getting to come down the stairs from the plane. This is the second time in a week I've gotten to do that! I felt like I was in the Parent Trap.

After arriving, we kept ourselves busy until the end of the night to avoid the effects of jet lag. First I unpacked; it was probably the quickest unpacking experience ever, considering I brought next-to-nothing with me other than clothes, textbooks, and cables. When I opened my bag I found a wonderful welcoming note from the TSA saying they had inspected my bag. Luckily I had an excel spreadsheet of all the stuff I packed and made sure nothing got lost (Ha! It came in handy!). We explored Metz to find the nearby grocery store, our academic building, the lake, and the other residence halls.

After a wonderful dinner provided by GTL, a few of us decided to hit up CORA, the nearest supermarket. I had NO idea it would be this ridiculous. It's basically a Cosco + Sam's Club + Super Walmart + those mini vendors in the mall. This picture really only shows half of it...

Then we went back to our wonderful dorms to go to sleep and wake up for a early morning orientation.

  1. really...you checked your inventory because TSA security is so interested in steeling your 10 pairs of running shorts...?

  2. Ummm excuse me. I brought 4 pairs of running shorts, merci beaucoup :) And I just found out our laundry costs like 10 euros a load... so I may be handwashing all of it. Kinda wish I had brought some more. But yeah. TSA apparently was interested enough in my stuff to take a look!

  3. 10 euros a load. Yikes! When you come home in July you can bring some more clothes back with you. I told you not to pack less. :) Looking forward to following your blog. Mom
